E Pals

Last term we were writing letters for our topic. We joined e pals, and the class all ended up with 2 or 3 e pals each. It was a very good way to put letter writing into an authentic context. An added bonus for me was to make contact with teachers from around the world. It doesn't matter where you are from, teachers are always good at sharing ideas.

It does take a few days to get your profile approved, and a few days to find schools to connect with, but once up and running it works really well.

I had great fun using ePals when I was in the classroom. One time we exchanged a parcel with objects that represented our culture with a partner class in the states. The kids had to write mini essays to explain the significance of the items. It was an exciting day when we received our parcel. One thing in it was the DVD of Independence Day which I thought was quite amusing! Great to see you in the land of blogs and on Twitter. Have fun with web 2.0. You can find support for implementing it on my wiki at:
